Legendary San Francisco Restaurateur, the late “maestro” Lorenzo Petroni, owner

of the truly famed North Beach Restaurant for 40+ years, imagined creating a

mountain winery estate in Sonoma Valley, reminiscent of his native Tuscany, Italy.

Former Mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown said “Every important person in

town ate there.” Petroni arrived in San Francisco in 1957 at 19-years young. His

homeland arrived with him “in his heart.” He always remembered the mountain

estate wineries of his beloved Tuscany.

In 1992, 35-years after emigrating to America, Lorenzo Petroni purchased this 35-

acres in the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma County. He immediately

recognized this “Knoll of Stone,” (Poggio Alla Pietra) was the ideal location for

what would become his vision of a Tuscan wine estate. He designed it for warm,

Italian hospitality and the pleasure it would provide for his family and many

friends. So many notable personalities of San Francisco enjoyed excellent food

and wines at the Petroni Family Estate. The wines from Lorenzo’s property

received high acclaim from professionals in the industry and from his family, and

friends.

At 625’ elevation above the Sonoma Valley floor, Poggio Alla Pietra offers

dramatic views, quiet seclusion and produces coveted Moon Mountain AVA wines

of the finest quality.

The property, has a 3,800-sf stunning home of Italianate Villa Architecture, guest

house, winery facility, wine caves, vineyards and olive groves. For years, so many
